Let's ROck!

Post by GvS »

After long break from RO, getting completely bored of WoW and many conversations with old guild members I finally decided that it's time to come back to RO. Our new destination:
iRO Valyrie - it's free to play official server.

Here you can find information about server settings – they might look difficult, from few days of playing I can tell it's not so bad:
http://iro.ragnarokonline.com/News/Noti ... rd=&mNum=4

Here you can register:
https://iro.ragnarokonline.com/member/m ... asp?mNum=1

and here you can download client:
http://iro.ragnarokonline.com/download/download.asp

Cons:

  • 1x rates and hardcore server settings
  • Spam bots in towns
  • Some people complain about lags
  • Premium items
Pros:
  • No wipes, no pressure to level fast because server will die soon, you can take your time and enjoy it
  • Many people, new faces (you meet almost same people on every priv server)
  • Huge market, loads of vendors, you can buy everything, I saw slotted Ice Pick for 95 mil and some godlike items ingredients for 50 mil
  • Official server - regular updates, stable, many features that are still missing on private, many little things working better
  • Lots of people on maps, but I noticed that they are much more friendly than on private ones
Server is opened for around 3 months, there are already some high level reborns, but majority of players are still 2nd jobs without gear. I probably won't play hardcore like before, because now I have job and can't spend whole day in RO, so I won't expect anyone to do it. I hope we would enjoy casual RO toghether again, without any pressure, just to have fun and join WoE in some distant future (my thief is already hunting thara card ^^). I would love to make big parties, explore new dungeons and hunt some MvPs.

After few days of playing here I rather like this server. Of course you can feel the lower rates, but at the same time there is no need to hurry, no fear of wipe or server stagnation. My thief (going for rogue) is already 35 and I found pupa card, thief bug egg card, chonchon card and slotted guard.

I'm very happy that just after mentioning it on irc almost ten people joined immediately.

List of declared players:
Sanakoev - Champ
Crow - Clown
Anelai - Priest
Norrdec - Sniper
bibi - Wizard
Seifer - Palladin
Raflik - Clown
ImAaSiLoL - Sniper
Kirk - Priest
Caibre - sinX/gunslinger
Chi - dancer
Noire - ???
Assarin - wizard
GvS - Stalker

If you have any questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to ask!

I can't promise anything, but I do have a couple of questions.

1) What classes are people playing? Do we have a core of reliable 'required' classes?
2) What will be your aim? Join WoE eventually? Focus on new PvE content?
3) What are the major changes since the time we stopped playing?

Edit: Ok, if iRowiki is correct, WoE times on Valkyrie are 6AM-8AM on Saturdays and 7AM-9AM Tuesdays... Do I have to share my opinion on this :< ?

Already played there, and even quited... or maybe not. I'm still in favor of trying WoE 2.0 :D.

Made a lvl 7 Novice and had to stop playing, because I was getting disconnected on Novice Grounds (unfortunately not only me). Lich says it's probably only on Novice Grounds since they are overcrowded but... WoE maps will be overcrowded too. Haven't check the WoE hours, but indeed those doesn't look too nice. It still would be doable for me (i can go to work at 10 on thursdays), but it's sounds little no-lify. We could do something in Saturdays at least, but we can forget about trying to keep a castle.

Concerning my character, my plan was to make SB SinX, cause it looks as easy to play character. Not the worst, not the best but easy to control. However this is not definite. This time, if we could decide what we want and what are our targets on server i could modify my choice, but I would prefer something non-critical and non-healing as WoW Raiding is still my priority.

1) Sanakoev is making priest or linker, bibi - wizard, Anelai - sage, Norrdec - hunter, Dis just posted about it. I'm not sure about others, because some haven't decided yet or have exams/are on holiday. I guess we'll have to wait some time before everyone see this post and decide about their class. If we manage to get 20+ players with all needed classes I will create and lead Multiworld guild, otherwise we should focus on creating good party capable of MvPing and exploring new dungeons. We need some biochemists, devo pally, bard and more HPs for that.
2) At first I would like to focus on PvE. Making rebon on 1x rates will be a challenge, and we need to be prepared for it. We need to gather PvE gear, WoE gear and some money before reborning, leveling WoE build and joining WoE, but that will be our final destination. There are some nice WoE drops in new PvE content so we'll go there as reborns for sure.
3) There is new UI - separate logs for battle and chat, active party window where you can cast heals and see hp, world map, quest window, auction house, battlegrounds, you can enable/disable equipement view.
One of the most important things: repetable exp quests. You can level from 1-86 just by doing them and many merchants sell what's needed. http://irowiki.org/wiki/Repeatable_EXP_Quests
There are Hugel Minigames with slotted elemental armors as rewards:
http://irowiki.org/wiki/Hugel_Minigames
Some kind of Izlude PvE Arena (I just found it by looking for other links):
http://irowiki.org/wiki/Izlude_Arena
There is mercenary system (I don't know much about it):
http://irowiki.org/wiki/Mercenary_System

Satan nuked Morroc and you can't walk from there to Prontera. I don't know about many changes myself, but you can find a lot on iRO wiki and here :

Well, if I were to join I would be in two minds between Champion and Clown (third choice being a Stalker, but since you intend a lot of PvE that is not a good choice).

If Anelai indeed makes a sage Champion seems even more attractive, but wtf should I do before we go trans? Solo sleepers till 99? I feel that monks are pretty useless for PvE as well :< (well it is not that monks are useless but they require prof to not be, and prof would party with champ in first place). Also playing a champ requires to spend tons of zeny on consumables (and from what you have linked the market would be much more 'strict'. Basic consumables like fly wings or blue gems are almost 10 times more expensive and safe upgrade level is +0 _^_. On the other hand big pop could help...). I did enjoy champ a lot on Celestia though.

Clown is also a great class for both PvE and PvP, but well, /cast Magic Strings /autofollow /afk ...

Did anything changed in that regard or are we still playing good old Ro? Can sinX still solo emp in 10 secs?

Clown can cancel strings, do some AVs and start them again before effect runs out. With soul link you can also do Gypsy songs and walk at normal speed while doing songs. Strings are essential for almost every party.
Champs are also great tanks with MS, and at least you have tele skill.
I've read that they changed emp, but sinX still own:

Champs (with professors) were always good for PvE in parties (except maybe for Valk) I am afraid about the time (3-5 months?) I would be spending as monk. Plus tele costs 1/10th of my total mana with 100 sp cost... Lvl 70 bard can be useful with strings. Monk = go solo m8. Than again that is nothing new in world of Ro. So, I assume, you would rather see me as bard, GvS?

PS. Dang, most of the good old websites I used are dead...

It's hard to decide, but I think clown have higher priority than champion. As you said, bard will be able to party effictevily and solo. In endgame dungeons we definetly need magic strings. Also, archer as starting char should be much easier than battle aco. Or you can just make both :)
Just stating my opinion, I don't want to force anyone to do anything specific, especially when still so many people haven't declared what are their plans.

Edit:
I found interesting post on Doddlers RO journal about new stuff on iRO Valkyrie, third from top:
