Ragnarok Online 2

Post by Crow »

It is comming back, this time better !!

It seems that Gravity has listened to players complaining that the entire idea of RO2 sucked and they decided to start it from scratch. This time however they want to make it more like a sequel to Ragnarok Online rather then a separate game that shares the name. We will have most of the old classes (except for blacksmiths), card system, stats system and many of the old monsters. Also the lore seems to refer to places well known from current Ro, such as Glast Heim or Dimensional Gore.

The graphic design is prepared by the same person as Ro1 and characters are no longer ff9-style kids, but remind a lot the sprites we learned to love over last seven or so years. The cherry on top of the cake is that music is to be prepared by Yoko Kanno.

I am really looking forward to what they prepare this time. I really wouldn't mind if it was just a transmigration to 3d while fixing some of the issues, but they obviously plan to implement a lot more - character look customisation, non-combat professions, etc. I hope they steal as much as possible from WoW too.

Closed beta is supposed to start within two months. The (Korean) release is planned around December.

More information obviously on iRo wiki forums: http://forums.irowiki.org/showthread.php?t=57290

They should basically re-release RO with better coding, and better visuals/mechanics/data flow... in my opinion. =P

There is a big interview with Ro2 developer Jin-soo Jun. Available on iro wiki thanks to Doddler:

http://forums.irowiki.org/showthread.php?t=60378

Dual job system, new card system, chara system, changing to NPC after logging off (yes, finally !), plus all the good things from old Ro sound nice. It is a pity there won't be a novice job, but it won't affect the game much. However automatic stat allocation (if the translation is correct) is a failure. While most people use similar builds in Ro there usually are at least two archetypes (pvm oriented and WoE oriented), strange funny variations (agi wizard, str hunter) and a lot of tweaking for each job, which I love in Ro.

Even with auto stats however RO2 seems to be heading the right direction. Less then 30 days till beta !!

Hmm.. i believe, that dual life trait may cause some overpopulation problem in Prontera. Charisma system (which you can freely change... -_-) doesn't make much sense to me but having a character class, job and charisma there should be a couple of builds to choose from. I just hope that it will not cause all the swordies do the mammonite or bombing spams =]

The interview gives me the hopes to see more of the Ragnarok lore. I think nowdays RO lacks it a bit. Just barely visible in few quests.

The lore is just very hard to track. There are also a lot of lore information which are not related to quests so you usually omit it. Take a look at this thread I have learned things I have never heard of before: http://forums.irowiki.org/showthread.php?t=49821

Finally - they are making a lot of progress. The story of Rune-Midgard itself was kind of scarce though far from nonexistent. The introduction of Republic of Schwartzvald and Rekenber Corporation lead to some very interesting storylines which unfortunately were hard to follow. They were continued with introduction of Arunafeltz States and the story of three kingdoms, plotting against each other became actually quite enjoyable. Further expansions, destruction of Morroc, opening of Dimensional Gore and finally discovery of Ash Vacuum continued the story and maintained a cause-effect flow of events. Now, while doing quests in New World I find the storyline quite understandable and intriguing.
